Elliott Banks Browne and Geartec Suzuki take the honours in Newcastle.

The 5th round of the Arena Cross UK tour visited the Metro Radio Arena in Newcastle upon Tyne.

 

The Geartec Suzuki team riders were looking for success following a frustrating round 4 in Birmingham. Both Elliott and Greg lined up in heat one, they put a marker down immediately when Elliott led and Greg was 2nd, Greg passed Elliott through the whoops to take the lead but Elliott responded immediately and motored away for the heat win. Greg came home in a solid 4th spot.

Elliott rode to 3rd in his second heat to book his place in the head to head races and the main event. Greg meanwhile looked like he was also going to easily make the main race but in the final two laps, mistakes cost him dearly and demoted him to the LCQ. Greg comfortably led the LCQ for 2 laps but then a mistake and a time consuming fall was to cost him his place in the final.

 

Elliott rode up to the start gate for the final with 3rd gate pick. The launch from the gate saw Elliott near the front of the pack, by the second corner Elliott had the lead which he did not surrender for the 12 spine tingling laps. He fought off challenges from previous final winners Ramette and Pellegrini to take a glorious win for the team.

 

Rob Hooper: “I am so happy that everything has turned out so well for Elliott, we have all worked hard to make it happen, but Elliott was brilliant he was so smooth and cool. It was a richly deserved win for all the hard work he puts in.

 

On the flip side I am so disappointed for Greg, he started the afternoon so well and also looking like he would figure in the challenge for podium positions, but it was not to be
